Multidisciplinary Teams (MDT)
The Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) approach to child abuse reports/cases continues to be a growing process, with so many different agencies involved. The ACC coordinates the MDTS in Fannin, Gilmer, and Pickens Counties. The ACC brings together the MDTs, which consist of representatives from the Department of Family and Children Services, Law Enforcement, the District Attorney’s Office, Juvenile Court Officials, School Officials, Victim-Witness Assistance Program, Court Appointed Special Advocates, Mental Health, Department of Juvenile Justice, Sexual Assault Victim Advocates, and Guardian Ad Litems. Child Abuse Protocols in Fannin, Gilmer, and Pickens Counties were developed and provide consistency concerning the procedures in handling these types of cases. When a child reports abuse, an interview is completed and the case is reviewed by the MDT. In working with the MDTs, the purpose of the Appalachian Children's Center is to be the central station for coordinating and providing the direct services for the victims and their families.
